It was the day that we have been waiting for, the reason that we come at this particular time of the year. To march on Yom Hashoah. And that we did
We lined up 8 in a row, linked our arms together, and marched off with the resonating blasts of the shofar. Togethere with about 8,000 other marchers we made the nearly 2 mile trek from Auschwitz to Birkenau. Together with other groups from the Czech republic, Hungary, Israel, and wherever Jews may be found across the world we completed this silent stroll.
Once we arrived at Birkenau some used the time to walk wthrough Birekenau on their own and let its impact hit ghome. Others found the time to mingle and trade gear with other groups. But all spent some time watching the moving program that was being held center stage in Birkenau. There we heard inspiring words from Malcolm Hoenlein and Rabbi Lau. We were also moved by the singing of the ageless Topol and the sweet tones of Chaim Adler and Dudu Fisher.
After the program concluded we began our 5 hour journey back to Warsaw where we will sleep the next 2 nights.
Tomorrow is a big day for us, so I am off to sleep now!!
