Day 2 Auschwitz

Today was a difficult day both emotionally and physically. We began with our daily study session from the book Aish Kodesh. We studied a piece about the ability to sing even in the face of tragedy and see the light even in the face of darkness.
Our tour of Auschwitz was full of sights and sounds that the marchers and only read about in books previously, to see it firsthand was a very powerful thing for the kids. Some of the images they will never forget is the mounds of hair and the loads of shoes that were plundered from the Jewish people. Also, I know that they will never forget the few moments that we spent together in the gas chambers and the crematorium. They will always hear in their minds the Shma and the Kaddish that we recited there. After lunch we toured Birkenau. I know that they were awed by the enormity of the camp and the sheer magnitude of the murders perpetrated there.
At the conclusion of our trip to Birkenau we davening Mincha together in the children's barrack and I know that moving Tefillab will forever be etched in their mind.
Our day concludes with an evening tour of Plaschow.
Hopefully a good nights sleep awaits us all!!
